What is E-Waste & Why Recycle?
Electronic waste, know as "e-waste", includes computers, technology equipment, etc., that are deemed obsolete or unwanted and need to be disposed of. Statistics are staggering regarding the amoount of e-waste that currently exists, with an even greater amount anticipated in future years. Much of the current e-waste is not being recycled or is being improperly disposed of.
Recycleing and properly processing e-waste is essential for several reasons. Electronic equipment is made up of a multitude of components which contain toxic substances, e.g. carcinogens suchs as lead, mercury, and arsenic, that constitute hazardous material and must be processed accordingly to stay out of the ground, water supplies, and the air.
